How to Use this Garden Planner
This garden planner is easy to use! All you have to do is decide how much you want to grow. Our goal is always to grow enough to have for winter, so I try to plan based on how many pints of food per winter we typically eat. If you’re a beginning gardener, it’s ok to just plan to have enough for the summer, then work on learning how to can later! It really is ok to go one step at a time, though I totally understand how hard it is to do that!
Let’s take a look at how to use this planner with green beans as our example.
I want to plan to have a pint of green beans for each week of the winter months. In Wisconsin, winter lasts a long, long time…. so I’m going to plan to grow enough green beans to last 6 months.
The chart says that the equation I should use is:
Number of pints of beans desired multiplied by two will give me the number of bean plants to grow.
I want to have 1 pint per week for 6 months, which would be about 24 pints of green beans.
24 pints needed multiplied by 2 equals 48. This means I should plant about 48 green bean plants to yield 24 pints of green beans.
